Meet Matthew...

King of all three-year-old-tyrants! His name means "Gift of God," and we chose it very carefully for its meaning. We were blessed with Matthew after my husband underwent a vasectomy reversal (he had a vasectomy after our 5th child was born, and then we decided we weren't quite done), and many months of trying to conceive.
Matthew is, as they say, "all-boy!" Add to that strong-willed and extremely mischievous, and you have a never-ending list of "Matthew Moments" to choose from on any given day. We recently went to see the movie "Marley & Me," and we spent the next several days calling Matthew "Matthew-Marley." If you've seen the movie or read the book, you now know Matthew. He IS our Marley! Matthew gets into so much trouble that I now take him everywhere I go (to include the toilet, shower, laundry room, etc.) and no longer feel comfortable leaving him home with my teenage daughters or even my husband. Zack (my husband) lost my faith when he took Matthew with him to run errands and Matthew ended up decorating the inside of my oldest daughter's brand new car with desitin. The only time I can relax is when Matthew is in his highchair or sleeping, and I'm sad to say that I rejoice in those moments. Honestly, I start every day off with a prayer for Matthew- just that he will survive the day. At this point, I firmly believe that my job as his mother is just to keep him alive!
After hearing some of our "Matthew" stories, a friend jokingly said that Matthew is our "gift of patience" from God! In honor of our precious boy, I am keeping a blog just for our "Matthew moments," and I am dedicating it to all those out there who have come before me with their "Matthews!" Please enjoy and leave comments!!! I will update with the "latest moments" as often as I can!

Matthewdini...

One of my biggest fears is that one of the kids will leave the lock off the pantry door, giving Matthew access to a whole host of snacks, plastic cups (which he fills full of water), and plastic bags (I'm afraid to think what he might do with those)! Here's how are pantry looks... You would think that the lock we have on the door- the one that requires two hands to get open- would be enough security until Matthew outgrows his mischief (at least the worst of it anyway!). Well, today I found out the hard way that we have a lock-picker in our house, and he's the very one we're trying so desperately to KEEP OUT!!! I came downstairs from making the beds to find a very scary scene! Matthew had been upstairs with me, but he managed to sneak down a few minutes before I was done with the beds, and I made the mistake in thinking that I was almost done and he'd be okay for a couple of minutes- when it comes to Matthew, you can never let down your guard!! When I finally made it downstairs, I found Matthew standing innocently in the kitchen in front of the fridge. That was my first clue...! Whatcha doin' Matthew? He walked silently over to the fridge and opened up the door and took something out. I looked down to see a bag of microwave popcorn in his hand. No Matthew, we're not having popcorn right now, and why did you take it out of the bag, and how the heck did you get this in the first place?!?! I reached down and took the bag from him and realized at once that it was hot and he must have had it in the microwave, which then explained why he had it in the fridge- he was trying to cool it off cuz it was too hot!!! I turned around to look at the microwave, and here's what I saw...
Sure enough, he HAD used the microwave, and although the popcorn didn't pop, the bag was definitely hot! I then went over to the pantry as I tried to put it all together in my mind. Had I left the pantry open?? I noticed that the lock was missing. Where's the lock Matthew? It was in the living room, and Matthew happily retrieved it for me, oh -so -proud of himself for knowing where it was! I took it from him and realized it was still closed, which meant that the little bugger figured out how to wiggle the darn thing off! Ugh! I had been hoping that maybe, just maybe, I had left it open a little and he had worked it off. But no luck, and now he has complete access to the pantry, and the microwave for that matter!!! May the good Lord help us now!!
